Will Europe Even Care?

Is the the question C&D is asking...

Our European contributors are somewhat hawkish on the Mustang’s long-term prospects, noting that while there is a lot of buzz right now, the car itself is somewhat big for Euro tastes (it’s the land of the small hatchback, you know?) and that it may need more green tech over time to meet tightening environmental regulations. The EcoBoost four-cylinder will undoubtedly be well received as Mustangs go, but the overall prospects may indeed be limited.

Very interesting... I figured that the EcoBoost engine would appeal to Europeans, but I didn't really think about how the car might be too big. It could be a significant issue since streets in Europe are a lot smaller than in North America. I do think that the Mustang is not going to be as successful in Europe as it is in NA, but I don't think Ford was ever expecting anything different.
I doubt the streets in europe will be an issue. they may not be as big as in america but it's still doable.
I also wonder about interior capacity. The mustang platform is horribly space inefficient, so sit in an S197 and the space inside does not correlate with the space outside. Not saying it will be paramount but certainly a curious question...

I mean its not going to be a huge issue, but I think that is one of the reasons why Europeans like smaller cars. If you are in a city, the streets can be quite narrow.

Why else do you think Europeans like smaller cars? Only other thing I can think of is fuel efficiency.
It's also probably also due to the culture their.

what, the narrow streets? nah, its cause they were built for horses...
Quite a few Chevys and Fords are sold overseas anyways. But they mostly, the ones who have money drive Audi and BMW. Its like people back in the states drive Dodge, Chevy and Ford and not to many Audi and BMW. This new Ecoboost in my opinion will not sell horrible or terrific either. The small roads are not that big of a problem either really. It would be for trucks but for any size of car its no problem. Even the Italians living in Napoli could drive one of these around. The tax on big V8s is horrible so this new ecoboost is right up a Europeans alley. I hope it sells well over there actually. People must realize how different the auto market truly is in comparing Merica to EU. EU has smaller roads, more taxes, trouble getting foreign car parts, so on and so forth. I guess we shall see and time will tell if Ford is able to significantly break into the foreign car market.

Reading all this stuff, I can only agree with one point, that is the size of the Mustang. For European standards this is a very large car and that might be a negative point. Only time will tell if the Mustang will be a top seller here in the EU. Sure, a handful of Mustang fanatics will buy one, but will that be enough for Ford? One important matter will be the price setting, so far we are not aware what this car will cost.
In Paris the people from Ford spoke about a price of 35 ot 40K EUR for the Ecoboost. Guess the 5K difference will be the price of the optional EURO package as it seems we'll start with a premium one with PP and a kind off 201A package integrated.

Sounds as if Ford is truely positioning this as a premium product in the same bracket as Mercs and bimmers. Do you forsee it being popular with the company car crowd, or does the lack of diesel shut that door immediately?

35 to 40 K € + 21 % or maybe 22 % VAT + other taxes, not mentioning the other options one might want to have. You can easily end up paying 55 K € for a Mustang EB, probably a car that even doesn't come near to an Audi, BMW or Mercedes.
Company car : don't think so, overhere "A grade" company cars for sales, agents, mid mgt are audi A4, Mercedes C, Volkswagen Passat, Golf.

Upper mgt is more looking at Tuareg, X5-6, Q7, M and 911

Diesel is still in the lead but some new taxes on Diesel coming up might change the habbits...

35-40K was dixit Ford guy in Paris amount incl VAT !? Let's hope it stays that way...

BIV in Belgium (tax to get it on the road) : € 1500,-
yearly roadtax : € 600,-

good point on taxes, those will be things to factor in and could very well be a deal breaker for some people when they look at what the end cost could be.
