With its most performance oriented lineup in decades, is Ford on the cusp of a return to top shelf motorsports? It would seem so but the brass remains coy, which is about as close to a guarantee you'll get...

Ford remains cool on global motorsport return | Autocar

However, last month’s reveal of the new Ford GT, which will go on sale in 2016 to coincide with the anniversary of the car’s Le Mans win, plus the return of a new Focus RS, had led to speculation that Ford could make a return to front-line competition.

Farley said: “While we’ll continue to look at all opportunities, our focus right now is on spending all our resources on pushing the road-going products. I’d prefer to pour everything we have into launching the very best Focus RS possible, rather than diverting our attentions elsewhere.

At the rate they're currently going at with what they have done with the 4 of their latest and coolest vehicles, it sure seems like that is the case with them, timing is perfect for it.

There is only one problem and Ferrari has demostrated it over the last 30-40 years. When they're road cars are top notch the F1 team is dismal, when the road cars are dismal the F1 team is top notch...

Then again counterpoint is Audi who keeps rolling to LeMans overall victories while producing compelling product...
