This popped up on my dash yesterday. According to the manual, there’s something up with the engine coolant temp. I can’t figure out what the problem is exactly, though. The temp gauge has not gone past the halfway mark, which means it (hopefully & probably) isn’t overheating. I just topped off the coolant, and I don’t notice any leaks, so I don’t think it’s that. I guess my question is, what do you think it could be (temp sensor, thermostat) and am I safe to drive at least locally (just around town for errands) for the time being until I get it fixed? Or is this a really serious concern? I made an appt with ford next week but i would prefer to fix it myself if possible.

Take it to AutoZone and have them read the code from the OBD. If the coolant level is correct and it is not overheating then it could be just a faulty temp/level sensor.
