What is the best way to install this...I did a quick look after I ordered mine and it looks like a bitch to get to the lower connection. Any hints to make it easier?I put a Mishimoto can on about 2 months ago and poured a couple ounces of oil out of it 3 days ago. It seems to be well built and well engineered. That's the only one I've seen, so I can't compare to any other brands.
It's a simple installation, but you're right about the lower end of the PCV line. I saw a youtube video of a guy who reached in from the top and did it, but I had to get the car up in the air and go in from underneath. My hand just wouldn't fit in there from the top. Anything that catches oil from your intake valves on a direct injection is s plus, whether stock or not. As for brand, I went with UPR dual catch. It mounts on the nice open side of the engine bay and comes with high quality hoses.Hi,

Yes I'm sure it is. However ALL cars have a PCV system that recycles oily crankcase gases back into the engine for emissions purposes. The amount of oil you displayed unfortunately has no context. You say less than 2 months and you collected that small amount. Well how many miles or engine run hours was that? If it was just 100 miles worth of driving, then yeah that amount of oil may be worrisome. However if that's 1000 miles of driving it's not anywhere near excessive. While it's true that boosted applications usually create more crankcase vapors than a naturally aspirated motor, that small amount of oil is not hurting anything and has zero impact on performance.This is what the catch can caught in less than two months on a stock car
On a stock car there really is no advantage to having a catch can. The PCV system is designed to route those crankcase gases back into the intake tract and burned as part of the normal combustion process. However in modified high compression engines, or engines that run a lot of boost the amount of oil vapors in the crankcase are increased and sometimes too much oil gets picked up in the PCV system and sucked into the intake tract. This can in extreme cases foul a plug.so whats the advantage for having the catch can? will the car run smoother ?
So how much extra power do you think your making with that catch can installed? Unless your engine was pushing a quart of oil into the intake every 500 miles it's a waste of money. I suggest you try dyno'ing before and after the catch can installation, then get back with us and show the results. >I installed a Mishimoto Catch Can at 1,000 miles. Now at 5600 miles, i checked it and it had some in it. Imagine that oil being circulated back into the upper intake. Well worth the cost.
I bought and installed a JTL catch can from American Muscle. It's nothing special or exotic, but does work and helps keep the oil out. Cheap and easy way to help keep the engine running in tip-top shape. Be patient and don't get frustrated taking off the lower hose. It's a pain in the butt. Find someone with long skinny arms to help you.
what is the catch can doing? catching oil from the turbo or valve covers?
Yeah so am I!? Not sure why they offer both a drivers and a passengers side catch can. I would think you'd only need one with two being overkill. The stock PCV/oil separator is on the drivers side of the motor and this unit from Ford definitely would keep everything under the hood looking "factory" were you to install one.So question on the Catch Can. Ford performance has this one:
But they actually sell a left hand side and right hand side. FP Tech on the phone said either one would work, but isn't there a "clean" and "dirty" side? Wouldn't the dirty side be the one you want and then the clean side maybe extra/overkill? One has a OCV valve built in, and the other does not.
Now I'm confused.
