DETROIT—Ford Motor Co. has selected 19-inch versions of the Pirelli P Zero and P Zero Nero All-Season for exclusive original equipment fitment on the 2015 Mustang GT, the latest iteration of the car maker's iconic muscle car marking its 50th year in production this year.
For Pirelli, the contract marks a continuation of OE supply to Ford for the Mustang that started in 2005.
The 5-liter V8-powered GT gets several fitment options, starting with 235/50R18 all-season as the standard fitment, with 255/40R19 all-season and 265/35R20 summer options, Ford said, plus a performance package with separate sizes front and rear: 255/40ZR19 front and 275/40ZR19 rear.
Pirelli offers the P Zero and P Zero Nero All-Season in W speed ratings for the 19-inch fitments along with an XL-rated version of the P Zero in size 265/35ZR20 99Y.
Ford offers two other versions of the 2015 Mustang: the base 3.7-liter V6 model and a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder turbo EcoBoost model.
Pirelli also supplies the P Zero in size 255/40ZR19 96Y and the Nero All Season in size 255/40ZR19 96W size for the EcoBoost model, along with the 20-inch XL-rated version.
The base model is fitted with 235/55R17 all-seasons standard, with a 235/50R18 and 255/40R19 all-seasons and 265/35R20 summer optional, along with a performance package fitment of 255/40R19 summer.
The EcoBoost model is fitted with 235/55R17 all-season standard, with a 235/50R18 all-season optional.
Pirelli said the 19-inch P Zero Nero All Season is designed to cope with the high performance demands generated by 420-hp Mustang GT as well as offer enhanced winter traction, consistent grip for acceleration and braking and a high level of wet grip.
These fitments help boost the number of OE homologations to more than 350 for the P Zero and 20 for the P Zero Nero All Season, Pirelli said.
Are they going to use these tires in every region where the Mustang is sold, or will they be sourcing different tires for other regions?
I don't have any complaints about Pirelli tires, and I don't really care enough to switch the tires out either. There are other things that I would sooner spend my money on to improve the Mustang.
Its too bad you feel that way. Tires are one of the most functional and noticeable upgrades you can make on a vehicle. Its the sole contact patch between your machine and the road, don't discount their importance...
